VLC media player 0.9.9
VLC media player (первоначально от VideoLAN Client) — это свободный медиаплеер.Программа работает на большинстве современных операционных систем, в частности на:
- GNU/Linux
- BSD (FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Apple Darwin, Mac OS X)
- Solaris
- и других разновидностях UNIX…

Стандартный GUI интерфейс для Windows, GNU/Linux, BSD, Mac OS X, BeOS базируется на wxWidgets. Существует также реализация интерфейса Qt4 которая работает на GNU/Linux и Windows.
VLC поддерживает скины через skins2 интерфейс, через него реализована поддержка скинов Winamp 2 и XMMS.
Для пользователей использующих консоль реализован интерфейс на ncurses.
Также существуют интерфейсы использующие telnet и HTTP (AJAX) специально для удаленного управления программой.
VLC плеер включает в себя ActiveX компонент, который может быть встроен в другое приложение например Internet Explorer и plug-in для Mozilla Firefox.

* On Linux, known bugs in the ALSA library might prevent audio output.
Update to alsa-lib v1.0.23-2-g8d80d5f or later, or use the libpulse audio
output plugin instead of the ALSA one (if you have PulseAudio).
Important changes for packagers:
* The module cache has moved to ${libdir}/vlc/. The module cache can now be
generated at install time except if you use staged installation. In the
later case, you can generate the module cache in your post-inst script
by invoking 'vlc-cache-gen'. If the module cache is not present and vlc
can't write in ${libdir}/vlc/, it will result it vlc taking a long time to
launch each time.

VLC 1.1.1Исправлены ошибки и обновлены файлы переводов. Среди исправлений отмечено устранение нескольких проблем, приводящих к краху, улучшение работы libVLC, исправление ошибок при выводе видео в Windows, обеспечение поддержи декодирования DxVA2 на ATI GPU при использовании драйвера Catalyst 10.7, приведение в порядок интерфейса и устранение проблем с работой демуксеров и декодеров. Дополнительно сообщается, что за месяц плеер VLC 1.1 был загружен 17 миллионов раз.

VLC 1.1.3исправлены накопившиеся ошибки, обновлены входящие в комплект расширения и скрипты, произведены незначительные изменения в интерфейсе. Отдельно отмечается исправление проблем в модулях Podcast и DVD, а также нормализация работы с относительными путями и директориями по FTP.
Во входящем в комплект плагине TagLib устранена уязвимость, потенциально позволяющая злоумышленнику инициировать выполнение кода при открытии или добавлении в список воспроизведения мультимедиа файла, содержащего специальным образом оформленные ID3v2-теги.
