Samba 3.0.20pre1Вышел первый предварительный релиз новой версии Samba — 3.0.20pre1.
После дискуссий разработчики решили пропустить релизы Samba с 3.0.15 до 3.0.19 и сразу представили 3.0.20pre1 (однако за 3.0.20 последует 3.0.21). Среди новых возможностей, появившихся в Samba 3.0.20pre1:
— новый асинхронный winbindd;
— поддержка Microsoft Print Migrator;
— новая библиотека ввода/вывода для файла реестра Windows NT;
— новое пользовательское право (SeTakeOwnershipPrivilege);
— новые опции «net share migrate».

Проект Samba 4 более трех лет развивался параллельно с Samba 3 и содержит почти полную переработку кода — в контексте реализации работы в качестве Active Directory Domain Controller и приведения поддерживаемого SMB-протокола к полной совместимости с продуктами Microsoft.
Кроме того, реализованы: встроенный LDAP-сервер, поддерживающий правила Active Directory; встроенный сервер Kerberos KDC (Key Distribution Center); собственный скриптовый язык написания сценариев ejs (на базе JavaScript); ACL в базе пользователей.

Samba 3.3.6В экстренном порядке выпущены новые релизы Samba - 3.0.35 и 3.3.6, содержащие исправление уязвимости, позволяющей обойти заданные через ACL ограничения, например, произвести запись в файл, доступный только для чтения. Уязвимость проявляется в версиях с 3.0.31 по 3.3.5, при активности опции "dos filemode".
Также выпущено обновление Samba 3.2.13, в котором кроме вышеописанной уязвимости устранена проблема безопасности (возможность подстановки параметров форматирования строки) в коде программы smbclient, при обработке в которой специально оформленного имени файла (например, "aa%3Fbb"), злоумышленник контролирующий сервер может добиться выполнения кода на стороне клиента.

Samba 3.4.0Основными новшествами в данном релизе стали:
- В качестве passdb-бэкенда по умолчанию для хранения паролей отныне используется "tdbsam", который поддерживает установку индивидуальных настроек для каждого пользователя (например, можно определить разные 'profile path' и 'home directory'). При проведении обновления необходимо использовать настройку 'passdb backend = smbpasswd' или сконвертировать базу паролей через 'pdbedit -i smbpasswd -e tdbsam'.
- Создание смешанной сборки, в которую включены исходные тексты Samba4 и Samba3. Значительная часть интерфейсов Samba3 теперь используется совместно с Samba4; Организовано совместное использование в Samba4 и Samba3 единой библиотеки tevent;
- В smbd изменится метод работы с недоверительными (untrusted) именами доменов, переданных в рамках аутентификации пользователя;
- Изменения в системе печати: различные исправления, в том числе, изменение описания принтеров для спулов принт-серверов Samba;
- Реализация вручную поддерживаемых DCE/RPC сервисов (ntsvcs, svcctl, eventlog и spoolss) будет заменена на код автоматически сгенерированный при помощи PIDL;
- Произведена очистка кода и код основных базовых интерфейсов используется, как Samba3, так и Samba4;
- Осуществлено добавление асинхронного API.

as the home directory if this user is misconfigured to have
an empty home directory in /etc/passwd.

If mount.cifs is installed as a setuid program, a user can pass it a
credential or password path to which he or she does not have access and
then use the --verbose option to view the first line of that file.
All known Samba versions are affected.
o CVE-2009-2906:
Specially crafted SMB requests on authenticated SMB connections can
send smbd into a 100% CPU loop, causing a DoS on the Samba server.

Данные аккаунты можно использовать для таких сервисов, как "ssh", "login" и "Xsession";
* Поддержка управления NT ACL-ами на стороне сервера через выполнение команды "net acl";
* Поддержка динамического обновления данных в DNS. Поддержка взаимодействия с Microsoft AD DNS сервером пока на стадии разработки;
* Переработка кода с реализацией системного реестра (registry), устранено множество ошибок и проведено более полное тестирование;
* Осуществлен переход на новый релиз Kerberos HEIMDAL;
