Дистрибутив Elive основан на Debian. В настоящее время Elive достиг версии 0.1, но активно тестируется и дорабатывается бета версия под номером 0.2. В основе системы будет находиться очень быстрый и красивый оконный менеджер Enlightenment.

В ELive также предусмотрена возможность установки на жесткий диск. По заявлениям разработчиков, данная версия будет работать даже на компьютере с частотой процессора 120 МГц и 64Мб оперативной памяти.

Эта версия, которой разработчики дали кодовое имя 'Serenity', исправляет ряд ошибок, найденных в предыдущих релизах, а также добавляет новые опции. Среди них поддержка жестких дисков SATA, опция настройки терминала в Elpanel, улучшенная поддержка дисков с автораном и автоматическое определение Cedega.

Большой баг-фикс релиз debian-based live-cd дистрибутива Elive "Revolution", основаного на E16/E17, включает в себя следующие изменения:

- исправлена SCSI эмуляция CD-ROM
- исправлены проблемы со шрифтами и оформлением E16
- добавлен Elive Installer
- включено больше драйверов для Wifi
- последний апдейт Xorg
- новые версии ядра + gcc
- Flash 9
- убран OpenOffice2 для освобождения места (частично заменен Abiword/Gnumeric)
- на освобожденное место поместили Java
- благодаря разрешению разработчика, Kqemu теперь распространяется с Elive

After a long wait, the first official stable version of Elive, 1.0, has finally been released. This version is ready for the end users and not just hard core testers. It is a more intuitive, efficient and easy-to-use system. It has better integration of the file manager and the mime types, a nice kernel especially for multimedia and big process loads, a light-weight foot print, much better compatibility with Windows system, more hardware supported, better graphical recognition, and many more things that you can find in the complete changelog.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of development version 1.0.2. The big change is the switch to the greatly anticipated new version of Enlightenment 17. Users can now get themes, backgrounds and animated icons from get-e.org and other places. Here is an excerpt from the changelog: audio - multiple simultaneous sound sources; aMSN - better configuration system; login sound changed; some applications updated; option to install other window managers (KDE, GNOME, etc) and have them available in the login manager directly; option to install applications and have them show directly on the menus; boot from external devices.

The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of development version 1.2.3. This version of Elive includes even more stability and usability of the live CD mode, especially when you install applications or do a lot of stuff on it. We have also switched to a newer 2.6.23.9 kernel while we wait the final release of 2.6.24 that Elive is going to use. The installer includes many useful and innovative new features that permit you to convert any Linux OS to an Elive system. If you have another Linux installation on the partition where you want to install Elive, Elive automates the process by saving all your users, files, passwords, and minor system configurations. Note that this feature at the moment only works on systems that use a separate /home partition.

The Elive Team is proud to announce the new development version 1.5. This is a very experimental Elive. The boot system is entirely rewritten, working but not finished. Many auto-detection and configuration parts are not implemented yet. This version is not ready to be installed, this is a release for testers and collaborators who want to discuss it at the Elive testers group. Changes: updated to Debian 'testing'; Elive installer - option to 'migrate' configuration from installed Linux system; more special hotkeys for laptops working by default; Firefox - a nice feature that shows thumbnails of sites in Google search; a more integrated system of translations.

After many silent weeks and relentless testing by our tireless users of the 1.6 and 1.6.2 development releases, we have now reached 1.7! This is a full-featured version of Elive with some long-awaited features working out-of-the-box: E17 menus ready; suspend and hibernation are now implemented by default; in the boot options of the live mode the language selector menu is enabled by default again; a new tool to make translations in Elive called 'eltrans'; eject CD fixed in the live mode; auto-launchers: have been re-implemented; printer issues hopefully fixed (new front-end); switched to ESU, EFL version of Gksu; Elpanel also got a few updates.

Details: this is the preliminary version of improved menus, they are better organized now, with more sections, and they should show any application that the user installs; b43 wireless cards (bcm43xx) are better supported, with a configuration wizard that asks whether to use NDISwrapper or a native Linux driver; Enlightenment 17 updated and configuration improved; more virtual desktops are included by default; the segfault bug in the pager is fixed; Tray - first implementation of a trayer in Elive; the Elive User Guide is updated (and translated to German); terminal and Vim have improved functionality and looks.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of development version 1.7.7. This release includes: Bluetooth - if a Bluetooth device is detected on your computer during the boot process, you will 'automagically' have a Bluetooth applet in your tray; notifications on the desktop - messages about miscellaneous events, e.g. Bluetooth PIN codes; X.Org - touchpad is re-enabled again, configurator of the graphical mode scans hard disk for possible configurations to use; ATI - some bugs were found with the fglrx driver in Elive, it should work now, but we still need your reports if something does not work correctly.

The Elive Team is proud to announce the release of development version 1.7.10. This release includes: Prism2: better prism2* wireless cards support. Flash: Macromedia Flash small update. Xorg: Xorg updates + a lot of fixes in Elive configurations of Xorg, some for Nvidia. e17: Some e17 gadgets configured on the fly. So for instance, if your computer supports cpufreq, that gadget is added automatically. Same with battery. If your computer does NOT support these features, the gadgets will not be added . Drivers: New drivers added for: gigabit-ethernet Atheros cards, Fujistu Siemens Amilo M7400 laptop modules, HP Omnibook Pavillon, Toshiba Satellite, and some laptops manufactured by Compal Electronics, Ricoh R5u870 webcams supported, 'quickcam messenger' webcams supported too, 10-gigabit-ethernet Solarflare (solarstorm SFC4000) cards. This version has some important fixes: fast boot mode removed - it is not really useful since it is not possible to accelerate the boot for generic machines; Linux kernel - back to the old mode configuration, if you had problems booting the previous version of Elive, your system should boot with this one; drivers - added 2 new branches of Ralink drivers that are needed for the Eee PC model 1000H; VFAT - fixed a small bug that caused the /mnt/Windows_C partition to not mount by default; installer translated to Spanish; enhanced menus support for Windows applications; E17 Annoying bug with the mouse temporarily fixed with a downgrade.

The improvement of Elive for the next stable release is proceeding smoothly, also profiting from the upcoming release of Debian. All that is needed now is to finish implementing a few more things, do the needed stability tests, and add more applications to the new translation system. The Elive team is proud to announce the release of the development version 1.9.10. This version doesn't include Exalt (a network configuration tool) any more, but there is a new application in Elpanel. Ibar is replaced by Itask-ng - Elive now has a zooming bar similar to the one in Mac OS X. It also has another feature enabled by default - 'lock icons', which prevents the user from removing icons accidentally. Vim color scheme hacks - the default color theme of Elive has been hacked for better development and coding. PDF printer - it is now possible to create PDFs from a page, document, or anything just by selecting to print to a PDF file in the printer menu. Networks - this version includes a new application called net-connector for configuring WiFi and wired connections.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of Elive development version 1.9.15. This version includes better support for MacBooks and a much better network configuration tool. MacBooks - the MacBook support has been overhauled, fixing some bugs like the installation and the webcam support. Wireless and networking - our new application to configure networks called Net-Connector is in a pretty good shape. All the known bugs are fixed and the auto-connect mode seems to be working properly. Since there are no known remaining bugs on it, we invite you to find new ones.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of the development version 1.9.18. This version includes a greatly improved new kernel and a lot of upgraded packages. Changes: Network Configurator is now perfectly usable and stable; Firefox bookmarks have been updated with new entries - a good list of GIMP links and tutorials, a big list of articles about Elive since its first version, and also some about EFL development; Linux kernel updated to version 2.6.26.8; all the currently available wireless drivers have been added, including the newest ath9k for Atheros cards; the bug about the WEP encryption in MacBooks has been finally solved using the new ath9k driver included on this kernel.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of the development version 1.9.26. Changes: NVIDIA and ATI - when you upgrade the kernel package and modules, you will broke your NVIDIA/ATI drivers except if you update or install or remove any requirement manually, this problem is solved in this version by holding ALL the kernel and driver packages (and GLX packages); accelerated boot - a bit more accelerated boot of the live system by sorting the files of the file system in the CD-ROM structure by their access order; practical things - convert any audio file to MP3 or OGG format by right-clicking on them in the file manager.

The Elive team is proud to announce the release of Elive development (Compiz) version 1.9.27. This is a major update for the Compiz series of Elive. Changes: instead of configuring Compiz from ECSM, you can now do it from a module; the cube is disabled by default due to its instability compared to the wall mode; not that the switcher (window switcher) of Compiz is ugly, but it's a bit annoying while the default switcher of E17 is a lot more powerful, configurable, and stable, so we use it as default now (it is still accessed by pressing the Win key plus the Tab key). Note: remember that these are the default configurations, you can change them to your taste!

Partitions - better detection and listing of the partitions for the live mode and the installer, if you encounter any problems, please report it; RAID - now the fake-hardware (featured by the motherboard BIOS) RAID disks are supported, a small help about RAID (software mode) is added to the installer describing how to install Elive on RAID devices; Macbooks - we have switched from LILO to GRUB, in the previous versions of Elive you saw that sometimes the system didn't boot anymore after running the fine-tune step because of some problems with LILO; Installer - the development is now all concentrated on the installer, with a large number of minor bug fixes and features.

New features in this release: 3g-dialer - if you want to connect to the Internet from your 3G/HDSPA modem, you can use the 3g-dialer (it even supports PIN code); Thunar - more features have been added, specially for images and audio files, using right-click with a mouse; SSH - using SSH will allow you to have direct access to Enlightenment remote features (if the remote user is also running E17); aMSN - new chat sessions won't open in separate windows; slamr - the bug seems to have been fixed; Linux kernel version 2.6.26.8 (revision 41).

В качестве Linux ядра используется версия 2.6.30.9, дополненная дополнительными драйверами и патчами. Например, в дистрибутив интегрирована поддержка файловой системы Reiser4, технологии временного засыпания tuxonice, драйверов для 3G-модемов, Bluetooth-устройств, Wifi-адаптеров (Broadcom 43xx), проприетарных драйверов для видеокарт ATI и Nvidia. Для задействования визуальных эффектов на десктопе поддерживается использование композитного менеджера Compiz. Из поставляемых в комплекте программ можно отметить: AbiWord 2.6.4, Firefox 3.0.6, Gimp 2.4.7, Gnumeric 1.8.3.

Для монтирования удаленных SMB-разделов используется утилита LinuxNIT. Для настройки оборудования в рамках проекта разработана серия автоконфигураторов, автоматически настраивающих систему во время загрузки. Инсталлятор может установить систему на дисковые разделы Ext4 и Reiser4, поддерживает режим обновления и миграции установленного Linux дистрибутива на Elive (с сохранением настроек и базы пользователей).

Из разработанных в рамках проекта приложений также можно отметить ПО Nurse, предназначенное для восстановления системы после сбоя. Nursе позволяет восстановить целостность конфигурации, провести тестирование оборудования, произвести проверку установленных пакетов, помочь в освобождении свободного места на диске.
