Gnumeric в особом представлении не нуждается, одно только перечисление форматов, с которыми он работает говорит о многом: MS Excel, Lotus, Applix, Quattro Pro, OpenCalc, XBase, DIF, SYLK, HTML, Psion, MPS, oleo, sc, misc, простой текст, свой родной XML, Latex... В текущем нестабильном релизе решены проблемы с диалогом управления таблицей, исправлены давние ошибки.

Сняты ограничения на размер таблиц, отныне границы расширены с 256 столбцов и 65536 строк до 4096 столбцов и 16 млн. строк;
Улучшены возможности по построению графиков: новые типы графиков для отображения поверхностей и вероятностных характеристик; оптимизация расположения маркеров на осях с датами и временем; поддержка кубической интерполяции сплайнами; учет погрешности для графиков в полярных и радиальных координатах;
Улучшение поддержки формата ODF (OpenDocument). Тем не менее разработчики предупреждают, что пока в стандарте OpenDocument окончательно не определены синтаксис и семантика, связанные с заданием формул в электронных таблицах, могут наблюдаться проблемы переносимости между разными реализациями данного формата;
Проведена работа по улучшению совместимости функций с MS Excel. Сообщается, что в Gnumeric теперь почти полностью реализован набор функций из категории OpenFormula;

Увеличена скорость вычислений. Особенно заметно возрастание скорости обработки страниц с большим числом обращений к HLOOKUP, RANK и PERCENTILE или подобным функциям;
Значительно уменьшено потребление памяти при обработке больших таблиц;
Улучшена работа инструментов для статистического анализа, например, добавлена поддержка оценок Каплана-Мейера, анализа главных компонент, тестов на нормальное распределение, критерия знаков, экспоненциального сглаживания сезонных изменений;

Добавлена новая утилита ssgrep для поиска по содержимому в наборе файлов с электронными таблицами в стиле обработки обычных текстовых файлов утилитой grep.
