Webskape Player has been created with web developers in mind and uses many web standards. Webskape Player application are written in an XML (Extensible Markup Language) based language that borrows heavily from XHTML (Extensible HyperText Markup Language). Webskape Player applications also support ECMAScript (ECMA-262 a java based scripting language), DOM (Document Object Model) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) which allows developers to learn quickly and borrow straight from existing code. This also allows applications to be edited using many 3rd party software that supports these standards.

Webskape Player is not a configurable piece of software it is for developers and because it is built using web standards it is very very flexible. There are few bounds to layout designs, styles and functionality. The player runs applications in a very similar way to an internet browser running a web page.
